What we believe:
1. We believe that the Bible – the Old and New Testament – is God’s Word to us, and is all we need to know
what to believe, and how to live our lives, in a way that pleases God.
2. We believe in one God who exists eternally in 3 equal persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
3. We believe that Jesus is Divine, and that He existed eternally with the Father. We believe that he was
conceived by the Holy Spirit, and born to a virgin. We believe that while fully divine, Jesus was also
fully human, that He lived a sinless life, before dying on our behalf. We believe that His death satisfied
the holy and just demands of God the Father. We believe that Jesus was raised from the dead and
then He returned to be with the Father. We believe that currently Jesus is our advocate with the Father
and that one day he will return to earth.
4. We believe that the Holy Spirit is divine, and is a Person. We believe that it is the Holy Spirit who convinces people that they are in rebellion against the Father. We believe that the Holy Spirit is the One who renews
and restores us, who transforms us and helps us become more like Jesus, who helps us understand the
will of God, who comforts us, and who lives in us to energize us.
5. We believe in the personal existence of Satan as one who is totally evil and who is the originator of sin,
the arch-enemy of God and human kind.
6. We believe that humankind was created by God in the image of God. We believe that humankind was
created to enjoy intimacy with the Father. We believe that Adam, as representative of all humanity,
rebelled against God. This resulted in the “Fall”, whereby the whole created order became dislocated
from God’s original plan for it. As a result of Adam's rebellion, humankind is born with a nature that
chooses to rebel against God. The implication of this nature is that humankind actually rebels against
God and his holiness, and that humankind is therefore subject to God’s just punishment for their rebellion.
This rebellion the Bible calls “Sin”.
7. We believe that Jesus’ death and subsequent resurrection is the only sufficient way for the consequences
of our rebellion against God to be dealt with. Therefore we believe that the only way to be brought into
relationship with God is by believing that when Jesus died, he was bearing the consequences of our rebellion
by taking our punishment. We believe further that all those who respond to the invitation of Jesus for
salvation, and who repent of their sin, will be saved, and have relationship with God restored. We believe
that his salvation is by grace alone – in other words, that is has nothing to do with what we deserve. We
believe that all who are thus saved will be kept until we finally see God.
8. We believe that one day Jesus will return, personally, to this earth. We believe that each person who has
lived and died, will one day be resurrected, and will need to face God as Judge. Those who have been
saved will be eternally with God. Those who have rejected God’s gracious offer of salvation in Jesus
will be eternally separated from God.
9. We believe that the Church comprises all those who have accepted the salvation which God in his grace
offers us. We believe that those who belong to the Church – Christians – attend worship services
as far as possible, are concerned about fellow Christians, and who do what they can to get the message out:
God so loved the world! We believe that the church is an independent and appropriately gifted body,
which submits to the lordship of the Head of the Church, Jesus Christ. We believe that each Christian is
gifted to serve. We believe that the office bearers of the church are pastors (elders, bishops) and deacons.
We, as Baptists believe in:
1. The DIRECT LORDSHIP of CHRIST over every believer and over the local church. By this we understand that CHRIST exercises HIS AUTHORITY over every believer and the local Church directly, without delegating it to another.
2. THE CHURCH as all who have been redeemed by Jesus Christ and made spiritually alive by the Holy Spirit.
The local church, being a manifestation of the universal church, is a community of believers in a particular
place where the Bible is preached and the ordinances of Believer's Baptism and the Lord's Supper are
observed. It is fully autonomous.
3. BELIEVER'S BAPTISM as an act of obedience to our Lord Jesus Christ and a sign of personal repentance,
faith and regeneration; it consists of the immersion in water into the name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
4. The principle of CONGREGATIONAL CHURCH GOVERNMENT
5. The PRIESTHOOD OF ALL BELIEVERS, by which we understand that each Christian has direct access to
God through Christ our High Priest, and is involved in the work of telling others that relationship with
God is possible. This involves intercession, worship, faithful service and bearing witness to Jesus Christ,
even to the end of the earth.
6. The principle of RELIGIOUS LIBERTY, namely, that no individual should be coerced either by the State or
by any secular, ecclesiastical or religious group in matters of faith. The right of private conscience is
to be respected. For each believer this means the right to interpret the Scriptures responsibly and to act in
the light of his conscience.
7. The principle of SEPARATION OF CHURCH AND STATE in that, in the providence of God, the two differ
in their respective natures and functions. The Church is not to be identified with the State nor is it, in its
faith or practice, to be directed or controlled by the State. The State is responsible for administering
justice, ensuring an orderly community, and promoting the welfare of its citizens. The Church is responsible
for preaching the Gospel and for demonstrating and making known God's will and care for all mankind.
